A BRISBANE legal service is set to establish a specialised unit on the Gold Coast targeting domestic violence and family law.

The Women’s Legal Service has signed a partnership agreement with the Gold Coast Community Legal Centre (GCCLC), which will refer clients to the unit.DV Image

Stephanie Ewart, of the Women’s Legal Service, said the group would be funded by the Federal Government and staffed by a solicitor, social worker and a paralegal.

“This is another piece of the puzzle aimed at services across the domestic violence board that we all collaborate on so women are not falling through the cracks,” she said.

GCCLC head solicitor Victoria Shiel said the opening of the unit could not have come at a better time.

“It is a response to demand and will offer a relief valve to help alleviate the pressure on existing services,” she said.

“It will give new hope and options for women who are desperate for assistance.”

The unit can be contacted via the Women’s Legal Service help line on 1800 957 957.
